Built in 1879 it was one of the Hill Country's most important landmarks. It was in this building that cowboys bought provisions for the Cattle Trails north, early Kerr County residents banked and supplies were purchased for ranches in multi-county area. Captain Charles Schreiner advocated sheep and goat production until the Hill Country area became the most important wool and mohair area in the world. Profits from this store went on to pave roads, build public buildings and founded what is now Schreiner University.
